Stone Mountain Park is well known by the locals and is a great place to experience a bit of the outdoors without going too far from the city. One of the many features of the park is the lake. High powered boats are not allowed on the lake so you’ll most likely see kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, and the occasional small fishing boat. There is so much to explore and see, but if you constantly paddle you can explore the entire lake in about an hour to an hour and a half. Both times that I have launched have been from the campground but there are official launching points for those who are not staying overnight. Its a perfect lake for anyone new to kayaking. You can get pretty close to the base of the mountain, explore an island with trails, fish, or just sit there and enjoy the peace.
